Imagine taking your slowest night of the week and turning it into a league with a waiting list. That’s exactly what Dan Mowery did at his center Midway Bowl.
Wednesday night was always one of, if not the slowest night of the week. So Dan tried a bunch of ideas to get people to come in. None of them really took hold, until he came up with Average Joe’s.
Dan knew there was a segment of his customer base who just wanted to hang out with their friends and have a couple drinks. So he got them all together and created a league just for them. Call Average Joe’s.
Their tagline, “A drinking league with a bowling problem” succinctly describes the laid back, fun first atmosphere of the league that does about 70% of revenue in food and beverage. The first year had decent attendance but by the 3rd year it was sold out with a waiting list.
Here’s Dan describing how they did it: https://youtu.be/XmbLAmDs4AA
Would you ever consider social leagues at your center?
