Read this is email if you want to be able to answer the question: “What is SEO and how do I use it for my center?”
Search Engine Optimization has an almost infinite complexity to it and almost everyone reading this will likely be coming into it from a different level of SEO understanding. I promise to keep this simple and focus on what you can do as a proprietor.
At its most basic level SEO is the process of getting your center to rank higher in the search results (namely Google). You could devote months to learning the intricacies of SEO but all we really want to know is why should we care and what to do about it?
Great questions.
Search engines return about 100 billion searches per month. That’s 100 with 9 zeroes after it, every single month. That’s a lot of searches. While your local area only sees a fraction of that, say 0.000001%, that’s still 1,000/mo. Imagine 1000 new people finding your center each month. Adds up quickly.
Your first goal is to make sure you’re #1 for all bowling-related search queries – think “bowling near me” or “bowling alley with bar”. With a little bit of effort this is very achievable for most centers due to limited competition.
Where you really start to move the needle though is when you begin pulling in traffic for bar and restaurant traffic. Many times these keywords will have 10x the traffic of bowling specific terms. Think “places to eat” or “fun bar near me”. Tapping into this marketing is especially great for two reasons.
As mentioned it’s usually 10 times bigger. But also this is your more profitable “casual” bowler that wants to eat and drink.
Viola! A few months of SEO efforts and you now have Google working for you, sending you new customers every month. Question is, when will you get started?
